Interventions

Supporting families and individuals through community reinforcement and compassionate intervention approaches.

We focus on evidence-based strategies like the Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) models.

This approach to intervention empowers families and loved ones to support positive change – without confrontation or ultimatums.

Interventions Can Help — When Done Right

Interventions often play a vital role in breaking the addiction cycle, but they depend on a lot of factors. The person’s state of mind, how the intervention is handled, and whether there’s a solid plan in place to follow it up are all key.

They’re not some magical fix, but one tool among many. Drug or alcohol interventions are not always necessary, and they’re definitely not the only way to start breaking the cycle of addiction. However, a well-handled intervention can 100% be the wake-up call someone needs to start making changes.

Interventions need to be conducted with respect, understanding, and a plan that actually supports change. The way an intervention is handled can make or break the whole process. Confrontational tactics are likely to push your loved one away.

Our goal is to create an environment where they want to take that first step themselves.

Confrontational Interventions Don’t Work

Traditional confrontational interventions, like the Johnson method, rely on pressure, ultimatums, and negative reinforcement to force someone into treatment. While it might look like a quick solution, the reality is these methods often push people further away.

You risk damaging relationships and reducing the chances of lasting recovery – not really what we're going for.

STRAIGHT EDGE rejects this outdated tactic.

Instead, we use methods backed by solid research that build trust, promote positive communication, and strengthen family support. This creates an environment where your loved one feels respected and more willing to engage in recovery.

Community Reinforcement & CRAFT

Our approaches are proven to increase treatment engagement and improve long-term recovery outcomes, without breaking down family bonds or relying on coercion.

Community Reinforcement Approach

CRA helps individuals replace substance use with healthier behaviours by improving their social connections, job satisfaction, and recreational activities. It’s about creating a life worth living that naturally reduces the desire to use.

Community Reinforcement and Family Training

CRAFT works with family members and close friends to teach them how to encourage their loved one toward treatment through positive reinforcement and effective communication. This approach avoids blaming or confrontation, focusing instead on compassion and practical support.

Every situation is unique. If you’re worried about a loved one or want to understand how CRA or CRAFT could work for your family, get in touch for a consultation.
